As we approach bonfire night, it's no secret that many cats find fireworks distressing. So what can you do to make this time as stress-free as possible for your feline friend?

  • Act normal. Cats pick up on changes in behaviour, and if you seem anxious, they'll sense it.

  • Keep your cat indoors, especially during the evening. Ensure their microchip details are up to date if they do escape in a fright.

  • Play music! This is a great way to disguise the noise, and your AI device can even play a playlist just for cats!

  • Close curtains - bright flashes can be frightening for cats, so reduce the chance of them being seen.

  • Increase hiding places - a cardboard box with a hole cut in will be a welcome refuge.

  • Don't confine your cat to one room. This will reduce their sense of control and could make matters worse.

  • Consider a feliway plugin. These release natural pheromones which tell a cat "everything is okay"
